One of my gifts for Christmas this year was a night at the Ice Hotel outside of Quebec City. I do enjoy trying new things but this was never on my radar or my bucket list. Apparently it was on my boyfriends.

We arrived at the Ice Hotel as the temperature plummeted to -26; good news is that the temperature doesn’t fluctuate much inside the rooms. Our adventure started with a tour of all the theme rooms in the hotel. With this years over-arching theme being myths there were some stunning rooms with coloured lights and elaborate carvings.

Our creepy room…

Of course our room was cool… but a bit creepy. It’s specific myth was from the Mayan culture… the hotel was totally booked so we couldn’t move to a room without glowing red eyes.

The staff at the ice hotel is fabulous for spending most of their time in the cold. They take you through a training session and answer all of your concerns. After our session we headed out for dinner – it is important to eat so your body stays warm. Back at the Ice Hotel we enjoyed several drinks in the Ice Bar complete with cups made of ice. We danced and tried to sculpt some ice blocks in to art (don’t ask what happened to mine)!

Before bed you are supposed to take a soak in the hot tub and then spend some time in the sauna – we followed the instructions. I won’t lie, it was cold especially when we changed hot tubs because the first one we picked was only lukewarm. This warming activity though set us up for a great nights sleep – no problems at all! Up at 7am and on the road by 8.
