At the end of the juice cleanse

So I made it… sort of.

My last day was Friday and I have to fess up to actually having dinner that night.  With my cold I just wanted something hot and spicy so I did have some vegetarian pho at Hanoi3 Seasons – which has the best Vietnamese in the city.

Before sitting down to break my fast I weighed myself on the same scale I had before I started and can report a 5-6 pound loss.  Now while I didn’t do the cleanse to loss weight, I am not going to complain about that added bonus.

All-in-all it was a great experience that I plan to repeat monthly (although I am going to request a little more palatable green juices – if that doesn’t defeat the whole purpose). I also ordered some juices and elixirs for this week that I am excited to try:

Love Your Liver: Cranberry, orange, carrot, beet

Cellulite Blast: Orange, Grapefruit and lemon

Tropical Intervention: Apple, Celery, Carrot, Pineapple, mango, papaya, spinach, Kale

POMPOM ME: Pomegranate, Lemon, ginger

Immune system Kick: Lemon, Ginger, Cayenne pepper

Now, I truly believe I am almost over this cold, that has held other people hostage for 3 weeks, because of the juicing. The 3 days also served as a start to a healthier everyday me which was what I was hoping.

Who knows, maybe next I will make it through the last couple hours! I also plan to get a workout in next time and maybe some yoga. I did have a massage Saturday morning which was also helpful I am sure in pushing the toxins to my lymphatic system.

I don’t expect that I will refrain from all the goodies next weekend but I think I will be smarter about my choices in general!  If you want to do your own cleanse – check out Raw Juice Guru (no, they aren’t paying me to promote them) or Belmont Raw which has a location in Leslieville.

Friday night I stopped in at the 7-Eleven to get my lotto tickets (couldn’t pass up the chance to win 30 million… side note – I won $10) and noticed a shiny new box in the corner. A Best Buy movie box! I haven’t been able to rent a DVD since Jumbo left the Loblaws building and Rogers shut down.

I know, there is a thing called iTunes and Netflix – I have and use both but this little box will give me a DVD for $1.50 and the first one was FREE! Saturday morning we stopped at the 7-Eleven to grab two DVDs for a trip to the cottage – no wifi so iTunes and Netflix were not an option.  Grabbed two movies effortlessly (as was the return) … and if I wanted to buy them I could just keep the DVD and the charges come to my credit card.

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not Lola or Otis was stirring, not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung on the ledge with care,IMG_3616

In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

Pups were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of rawhide danced in their heads.

And me in my jammies, not wearing a cap

Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.

When in the spare room Otis made such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the patio door I flew like a flash,

Flipped on the light and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a Leslieville raccoon without much fear.

A teenage Procyon lotor, looking for a place to rest,

I knew in a moment that scaring it off would be best.

We barked, we growled, we banged on the glass,

Until that ‘coon decided he should move its ass!

His eyes-they were beattie! his belly robust!

He knew that vacating the deck he must!

He jumped on the ledge and reached for the tree,

Looking for one that would allow him to flee!

It took him several moments to actually get away,

Merry Christmas he did not actually say

He cursed and he mumbled and growled as he left,

I will be back again another night to make a great mess.

Another Before & After – Backyard Makeover

So last weekend was a whirlwind of trips to Home Depot, Loblaws, Sheridan Nurseries… and my friend Lisa’s who split her perennials and donated them to my yard.

Money was spent, nails were broken but 99% of the outdoor work is done!

I am shocked to just how great the yard now looks and can’t wait to entertain.  There are lights and a fountain in the pond. It is a backyard oasis!

 

Beyond showing off my yard I wanted to share some tips:

  • shop around! We thought we were getting a deal at Loblaws with 2 for $25 hanging baskets only to find them the next day at 2 for $16 at Home Depot
  • Try local. East of Eliza at Woodbine on Gerrard was so helpful and they have a nursery in the back with plants and trees that flourish in the shade (important for Leslieville and the Beach)
  • Don’t try and get it done in one day! It helped that we took our time over 3 days to get the yard to where we wanted it

Now I am sure most men read the title of this post and laughed but most women know that a well groomed brow can make you look infinitely better and I do have a girl who makes magic happen with a tongue depressor and a pot of hot wax. (You can find her at L’Attitudes at the Eaton Centre – book with Rebecca) 

On Friday I had an appointment with my eye brow girl but she unfortunately got stuck in the subway and I couldn’t wait around for her to get in so I had to come up with a plan B.

In my neighbourhood there is a Brow House only a five minute walk so I thought I would give them a try.  I sat down in the chair was got the explanation about they shape brows.  Seems that my girl has been waxing me to thin and the Brow House girl wants to try and grow them in to draw attention to my green eyes.  She drew in the goal results with a eyebrow pencil and I thought ‘why not’!

Now I do feel bad, like I am cheating on the other gal but I signed up for a 3 pack at The Brow House in Leslieville which will last me to July. I already planned out the afternoon of June 8th for my next appointment – a couple hours next door at Steeped and Infused with my laptop beforehand.

I will let everyone know how the brows materialize over the summer but here is a before photo:
